Longevity Science
Longevity medicine is an advanced, science-driven approach to healthcare that goes beyond simply extending lifespan. It focuses on enhancing healthspan – the years of life spent in peak physical, mental and emotional well-being. By targeting the root causes of ageing at the cellular and molecular levels, longevity medicine combines cutting-edge diagnostics, personalised strategies and innovative therapies to help individuals thrive throughout life.
Ageing is not just the passage of time – it is driven by interconnected biological mechanisms known as the “pillars of ageing.” These pillars guide longevity medicine’s strategies to slow, prevent, or even reverse age-related decline.
In this section our scientific director and specialist clinicians tell you more….
Ageing is inevitable, age related decline is optional
Why focus on ageing?
Ageing is the single largest risk factor for the chronic conditions that erode quality of life and productivity. Modern longevity science and medicine has identified the key processes that make up “ageing” and identified strategies to overcome age related changes.
Health span
Our goal is to have a long and vibrant life. Lifespan means adding years to life. Promoting health span means maximising the duration and time spent in optimal health. The classic “square the curve” chart first describes by Fries in the 1980s and brought to life by Peter Attia.
The Pillars of ageing
Modern biology describes a series of 12 key processes the “pillars of ageing”—that drive functional decline across all systems. Understanding these processes allows us to deliver targeted resets to slow down or even sometimes reverse biological age.
How do we age?
Although we may perceive time as linear on a calendar extensive research has shown that ageing occurs at broadly three key inflection points; around 34 years old, 44 years old and then around 68 years old. These 3 shifts are accompanied by specific changes in our biology.
Nutrition for Longevity
An introduction by Clemence Cleave
Harnessing the power of nutrition to quiet inflammation, sustain vitality and extend the years lived in good health.
What we eat – and when, how and how much – profoundly shapes how we age. Diet is a powerful lever for extending our healthspan: the years of life spent in good physical, cognitive and emotional health. A nutrient-rich and carefully balanced eating pattern supports key longevity pathways by dampening chronic inflammation, maintaining metabolic balance, and sustaining vital organs such as the brain, heart, liver, muscle and gut.
